Information for those new to the Duty Rota
Access
The keys and the croquet
equipment are kept in the cupboard (old wardrobe) in the building housing the
squash courts and gym. This is the first
building as you approach the Rugby Club clubhouse. The door is on an entry lock and the current
code is XXXXX
The light switch is immediately
to the left of the door and the cupboard is at the far left of the entrance corridor. Mallets, balls, pegs, clips and bisques (kept
in a fabric bag) are currently stored in the cupboard with the keys. There are plans to make a cupboard beneath
the shelf opposite to house equipment.
Please remember to switch off the
lights and lock the door when you leave if there is no one else in the
building.
Equipment
There are 4 lawns in use so
please take sufficient sets of balls up to the lawns. In good weather please
allow for 2 games per lawn, ie a main set (blue, red, black,
yellow) and a secondary set (green, pink, brown, white) for each lawn. Please
check that there are matching clips and an extension to the
peg with each set – these items often fall off! Please select a variety
of mallets to take up so that members and prospective members have a choice of
length, weight etc. Not all the
equipment may be needed but it is much more welcoming to new and prospective
members to have it on hand than have to drive off to get more.
Keys
The croquet club keys are kept on
a yellow wooden ring with a single black and red stripe. There are fewer keys
on our set than on a similar wooden ring of keys which belongs to the bowling
club. The very short square key opens
the padlock on the gates. Other keys
open the hut and the portaloo.
Setting up
Please leave the padlock in situ
when you open the gate. The keys need to
be taken up to the lawns.
Those on duty may drive round the
edge of the rugby pitches and bowling club and park on the rough grass between
the lawns and the shed. Unload the
equipment and set up 2 or 3 pegs - not all the equipment taken up may be needed
so you may wish to leave some of it in the car.
Please put out a few chairs by the lawns – these are kept in the hut.
Croquet hoops are left in situ;
if the lawns have just been mown then they may need to be put back.
Welcome
Please look after new members and
welcome any prospective members.
Finally
After all that hard work relax
and enjoy your game. You do not have to return all the equipment or lock up,
though we do ask you to return any equipment in your car as you leave and also
to check that no clips or peg extensions are rolling around your car boot.
If you leave whilst others are still playing then please
leave the keys with them so they can lock up and return the rest of the equipment.
